What is Melanin used for?

Melanin is the pigment that gives skin color, but also a powerful antioxidant. It provides natural sun protection to the skin because it can absorb up to 90% of UV rays. Each skin therefore has its own SPF (sun protection factor) thanks to it.

Tanning and a tanned complexion are a reflection of a temporary increase in melanin under the action of UV rays. However, stimulation must be done in moderation. Excessive production of melanin can create hyperpigmentation, also called brown spots.
