Is layering as good as claimed?

LAYERING: GOOD FOR THE INDUSTRY, MAYBE A BIT LESS FOR YOU …

“Layering,” which translates to “successive layers,” consists of turning yourself into a slice of bread on which more than 10 layers of skincare are conscientiously applied every day! A skincare ritual that, on average, doubles the time spent on your daily routine and makes your beauty budget skyrocket.
The success of “layering” has always surprised me, as it seems to defy common sense from a toxicological, allergological, and dermatological point of view.

NO “little critter” SURVIVES …

It is important to know that a conventional cosmetic formula contains an average of 1% preservatives. Ten layers of skincare therefore mean applying 10 × 1% of … preservatives!
Under these “ultra-sterile” conditions, it becomes difficult for your “good” bacteria, those famous cutaneous probiotics, to survive.

IT’S JUST LIKE AT THE CASINO, THE MORE YOU PLAY, THE MORE YOU INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF LOSING…

…your good bacteria and winning allergies! It’s mathematical: on average, 10 products × 25 ingredients = 250 ingredients applied to your skin every single day, bearing in mind that one ingredient can contain several hundred molecules and just one of those molecules can trigger an allergy… are you following? A real game of Russian roulette.

PLAY “THE BIG BLUE” IN YOUR BATHROOM

Did you know that your skin breathes? Exactly 720 liters of oxygen pass through the skin every 24 hours, about 7% of our total oxygen intake. This exchange occurs through the subcutaneous blood vessels, but also through the skin’s pores. Since you are now a distinguished biologist, you’ll have understood that applying nearly 10 layers of cosmetics to your skin forces it to hold its breath like Jacques Mayol …

TURNING BACK INTO A TEENAGER …

… and seeing pimples appear on your lovely face? Even if all your beauty products are supposedly “non-comedogenic,” no test takes into account the fact that you’re going to apply more than 10 of them on your skin. Guaranteed “pore-clogging” effect, dead skin cells trapped together with an excess of artificial sebum, we have here a perfect recipe for a dermatological condition known as “acne cosmetica”.

Just like layering, I’ve just stacked successive layers of arguments, so it’s only fair that I offer you an alternative. Easy-to-apply suggestions for your daily routine, with a single motto: “Less is more”! I love this phrase because it perfectly sums up the wisdom of frugality. Buy less but better.

Applying a maximum of 5 products per day seems to me to be a reasonable choice.

WHAT ABOUT SPECIFIC PRODUCTS?

Masks: use hydrating, soothing, nourishing masks… whenever your skin has been stressed: after exercise, after a long flight, sun or wind exposure, etc. Personally, I use the Repulp Mask after every surfing session.

Treatment products (peeling type): they can temporarily replace your evening skincare routine.

The essentials

✔ Layering means applying “successive layers” of products to your skin. Novexpert reveals a secret: it’s a waste of time and money, and on top of that, it harms your skin’s good bacteria!

✔ With layering, your skin holds its breath all year round. Applying multiple layers prevents your skin from breathing. Clogged pores = guaranteed acne.

✔ “Less is more”, that’s Novexpert’s motto! Applying a maximum of 5 skincare products per day is a reasonable choice.

Aujourd’hui, on le sait.
